The MOT History

The MOT was first introduced in 1960 by the then Ministry of Transport for all vehicles over 10 years old. At this time lots of vehicles had been involved in accidents that were proved to be unsafe and in some cases just outright dangerous for the drivers and public. April 1967 was the year the annual test came in for cars over three years of age.
